During 2009 we had the pleasure of coaching both professionals and parents in Newcastle, the Central Coast, Sydney, the Illawarra and Nowra regions as well as networking with a diversity of workplaces and child and family professionals. Our collaborations are examples of positive and innovative ways to support families and promote respectful relationships at home or at work.

Sadly in December 2008 our patron, Kerryn McCann, lost her brave battle with cancer. Kerryn was a committed and extraordinary athlete but her real passion was for her family and her three beautiful children Benton, Josie and little Cooper. She was inspirational in showing us that being a devoted parent means giving the greatest gift of all. In this race that is our life may we honour and remember Kerryn by keeping a close and loving connection with our own children and families.

2007

In our first year of business we presented at the following conference:

  • November 2007 Winning Partnerships for Children Conference Barnardos Communities for Children Shellharbour & ECTARC

We launched our parent-coaching business:

parentSCOPE was launched by our patron, Kerryn MCann, Commonwealth Games gold-medallist marathon runner and mother of two young children, on Mothers' Day Sunday 13th May 2007.

Our launch was part of the Illawarra Innovation Showcase and Australian Innovation Festival. We were invited to be part of these prestigious events because of the innovative approach we have to working with families and other professionals, using coaching not just education.

Kerryn McCannparentSCOPE’s launch took place at Illawarra Live Steamers miniature railway park in keeping with our theme of “COACHING PARENTS TO STAY ON TRACK”. Over 200 people enjoyed the rides, book readings and sing-a-longs and listened to Kerryn’s personal story of how our book “Salurri and The Way Train” can make a difference in the lives of parents and their children.

“Getting Josie, my little three year old, dressed into shorts and shoes suitable for riding the trains today could have been a struggle, because she wanted to wear a pretty dress like mummy. But rather than losing my cool I thought about the girls’ book Salurri and The Way Train and thought: What would Salurri say? ... Listen and understand. So I said to Josie ‘How about we put your dress on over the top?’ Tantrum avoided! parentSCOPE’s message for parents is a practical reminder for all of us to look at the way we are being with our kids.”
